眠れない原因は、枕だけでない?Is your pillow not the only reason you can't sleep?

Is your pillow not the only reason you can't sleep?

Even if you have changed to a custom-made pillow to improve the quality of your sleep, if you cannot sleep, you cannot sleep. Although the pillow should fit your sleep because it was custom-made, does it feel different depending on your condition, sometimes too firm or too soft, or even different depending on the day?

Why do you suddenly wake up in the morning and find yourself unable to turn your head due to a difference in sleep, even though the firmness or height of the pillow does not change? Perhaps the real cause is not the pillow, but your neck and shoulders.

The ultimate sleep may be to change pillows according to the conditions of the day, but that is too impractical a measure. So how can we get a good night's sleep without changing your pillow? It is all a matter of changing your mindset. In short, you should adapt yourself to the pillow, not the pillow. In other words, loosen the muscles in your neck and shoulders that support your head on the pillow. If the neck and shoulder muscles are too stiff, the contact surface with the pillow will be reduced and the fit of the pillow will be lessened. If you go to sleep with stiff neck and shoulders, you will fall asleep without a good fit to the pillow, and you will feel that the pillow does not fit.

In today's lifestyle, everyone suffers from stiff neck and shoulders, such as smart phone neck, straight neck, and stiff shoulders. Humans are not inherently biologically structured to maintain a heavy head tilted forward. The head weighs about 10% to 15% of our body weight. If a person weighs 60 kg, the head weighs about 6 to 9 kg, about the same as a bowling ball. The muscles of the neck and shoulders must support such a heavy head. The strain on the neck and shoulders is great, and it is no wonder that stiff neck and shoulders have become a modern disease.

In addition to being conscious of your pillow, you should also take care of your neck and shoulders, which are very important.

Touch your neck and shoulders every night before going to bed. If you notice muscle stiffness, it may be a sign that your pillow is not right for that night and that you will have a poor night's sleep. In such cases, it is effective to warm your neck and shoulders by self-massaging your neck and shoulders before going to bed, placing a hot body warmer or warm towel on your shoulders, or applying moxibustion. Especially during cold weather, we tend to unconsciously shrug our necks and shoulders, so try to reduce the strain on your neck and shoulders before going to bed. It appears that unfit pillows are not the only culprit for insomnia.
